Given the context of a health emergency, the government is constrained to legislate in all the fields to face the problems which arise for all the people living in France.
This is particularly the case for residence permits.
The government may extend by ordinance, and for a period of six months, the validity of residence permits for foreigners in a regular situation, under the terms of the emergency bill which was examined at the last Council of Ministers (Wednesday, March 18 ) indicates AFP.
This concerns “long-stay visas, residence permits, temporary residence permits, receipts for residence permit applications” as well as “asylum application certificates that expired (or are going to expire) between March 16 and 15 May 2020 “and this” within the limit of 180 days “, specifies the text was presented to the Council of Ministers.
The Paris police headquarters announced on Monday, March 16 an extension of three months “in order to secure the presence on the territory of foreigners in a regular situation”.
It is also a question of “avoiding any questioning of the rights conferred on them by the residence document they possess”, in particular, “the right to work and the benefit of social rights”, according to a press release from the prefecture of police. For its part, the French Office of Immigration and Integration (Ofii), a body under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior, announced on March 16 last the suspension of “all procedures for welcoming the public outside the asylum procedure ”.
